Jacien George Carr is a Historian. Prior to academia, Jacien was a corporate official with Quality Support Inc. in the Washington, DC area where he served as a finance manager at its headquarters. He also served in the United States Marine Corps’s both active and reserve components. Jacien’s international experience is extensive and varied. He grew up in several European capitals where he gained fluency, or near fluency in several languages including French, Italian and German. Jacien is a contributor to Professor Timothy J. Stapleton's edited volume entitled Modern African Conflicts: An Encyclopedia of Civil Wars, Revolutions, and Terrorism in which he authored several sections.
Dr Carr holds a PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies. His doctoral concentration is on the history of power associations-also known as secret societies-in West Africa. The title of his PhD dissertation/thesis is The Poro, Bundu and Sande: Power Associations in Liberia and Sierra Leone from the Sixteenth to the Mid-Twentieth Centuries.
